At a very young age, I've always had a knack for art. When I was around 5 or 6 years old, I would tape my drawings up on the hallway for everyone to see (doing it so often that I eventually got banned from having tape of any kind). While most kids eventually lose interest in art, I persisted in it. My artistic abilities expanded as well, as I had dove into painting, sewing, crocheting, doll design and comic book making.
Around high school was when I decided that I would go into art, however I had a challenge on what I'd major in. I didn't want to go into fine arts because I wasn't a fan of all the physical materials I would need, but I also didn't want to go into illustration as I already knew how to do that. This landed me into enrolling as a Graphic Design major.
Ironically, despite my major and all of my learning, I've grown into the role of an Illustrator and have been employed for more illustration-heavy work rather than any graphic design work. Despite this, I have merged the two, incorporating illustrations into my design in either the logos, icons and additional assets or using the skills I learned from graphic design to make the book-making process a little bit easier.
